"Die Botschafter des Denver-Sounds", deren letzte Albumveröffentlichung "Cypher" (Alternative Tentacles/Cargo) optisch von einer mystischen Symbolik geprägt ist, beeindruckt musikalisch durch einen einzigartigen Sound, der am ehesten als eine dunkle, dreckige Variante des America zu verstehen ist. SLIM CESSNA'S AUTO CLUB ist keine Band mit einer typischer Besetzung. Neben der üblichen Instrumentierung (Bass, Drums, Pedal-Steel, Guitar, Banjo, usw), sind zwei besonders magische wie auch manische Persönlichkeiten als Sänger zu erleben: Slim Cessna und Jay Munly (16 Horsepower) predigen ihre Songs wie bei einer verschworenen Zeremonie und prägen somit ihren eigenen Stil der durchaus auch Anleihen aus düsteren Indierock oder A-Capella Balladen nutzt und Alternative-Country mit einer Prise Ironie versieht, aber alles andere als typische Cowboyhutmusik darstellt.
